China Pt 4

After Chengdu we then arrived in a city outside of Xi'an. Doug only had one conference here so we got to do a lot more sight seeing together.
Douglas and I went by ourselves to the water front and walked around. This is Xi'an across the river.
There was a holiday and this was the square that we ended up in. It was beautiful, but there were a lot of people.

Some random guy came up to us and gave us a kite, so we flew that for a little while. We are a little out of practice, but it was a lot of fun.

There were many people flying kites that day.

We kept walking and saw all of these cool red lanterns in the trees in the park.
A carnival was going on. There was a lot of people!
Then we went to a mausoleum. These are tombs where they bury the emperors and their wives. These are clay people that represent all of the people the emperor wanted to take to the afterlife.

 This is our tour guide.

The next day we went to the Terracotta Warriors. This is another mausoleum, but a very famous and popular one.

We then went to the old city wall and rode bikes on it for a while. Xi'an used to be the capital of China, but was then changed to Beijing. That is why they have this big wall.

This guy didn't have any hands and legs, but he was writing characters on plain fans and selling them. It was pretty impressive.
This picture is for my mom. They like to 'walk' their birds-meaning they put them in cages and take them wherever they go.
We then went to the park. They had these sculptures of famous Chinese Opera stories or just stories

They had a very impressive water show by the pagoda.

Later that night we went and played ping pong with some people. All I have to say, is that the Chinese people really know how to play ping pong. They were incredible!
