The Power of Forgiveness

Today was the Christmas special for our Sacrament meeting at Church and a couple things came to mind that I wanted to share. Mainly, I realized that Christmas is about Christ's birth but it is also about his teachings, his life, and his principles. So I wanted to share my thoughts on one specifically.

Forgiveness. In Sunday school we got a paper that had a list of things to give for Christmas. One was to forgive a friend, tell them you love them, and understand where they came from. Over the summer a really great friend of mine and I got into a not so small fight. We have slowly been getting friends, but today I saw this person and had this lesson and realized that I needed to forgive him and try to fix things.

I sent him a quick text saying that I was truly sorry and that his friendship meant a lot to me and I hoped that he would forgive me. He replied saying he was going to say the same thing. He said he forgave me and hoped I would forgive him. Of course I said I did, and then reflected on the power of forgiveness.

God has given us this power so that we may return to live with Him. I have never really felt the power of forgiveness, but I did today and I am so grateful that I did.

Pres Uchtdorf said, "When our hearts are filled with the love of God, we become 'kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving."

May this Christmas we forgive those of our trespasses and ask to be forgiven of others. Merry Christmas!
